Last weekend, I attended Megacon Birmingham 2026 (28th March). I paid £24 for Satuday Standard Entry. I had a fun day out with my girlfriend and returned with cute stickers, sparkly badges and awesome art prints. After my last Megacon post, I figured it was time to delve into whether or not Megacon Birmingham is worth attending.
General
Project Dalek and Droid Builders were wonderful, and it was fun to watch droids and Daleks alike wander around the convention hall. The gaming area was always busy. It seemed smaller than last year, which was disappointing since my girlfriend and I were hoping to play a few games.
The layout of the convention itself was fine and there were people checking props as we entered. the artist alleys were generally wide enough to walk three across which was useful when it was busy. The Steampunk Emporium had even more cool things to be in awe of, and I loved it.
Guests
This year, most of the guests were voice actors. I did not meet them as they weren’t from things I’m particularly into but I haven’t heard any complains about them or the panels. Since I wasn’t interested in photo ops or autographs, I can’t say how reasonable the prices were either.
Panels
This year, I only attended one panel. There wasn’t as many panels on cosplaying as I remember there being last time. This year, there were only two stages instead of three (main and feature stage). The one panel I attended was at 3pm on the Saturday and featured a Wheel of Chaos.
The idea for this panel was fun. There were some cosplayers on stage and they had to do whatever chaotic thing the wheel landed on. Since lots of people love being silly, doing videos and dances at cons, I thought it would be fun. However, it started late and the interactions between the people on the panel felt very awkward an I’m not sure they knew each other. Sometimes it felt a bit uncomfortable to watch rather than funny.
Harassment Issues
As of yet (31st March I have not head anything about people being harrassed inside Megacon. However, I have heard that some people did get harassed by people attending Dreamhack and Arnold Sports Festival. I did not personally see this, but there are many videos on Instagram and TikTok. People filmed cosplayers without consent, insulting them and harassing them. This is not a fault of Megacon, but for many con-goers this could have ruined their fun day out. I think the NEC’s security should have done a lot more.
Overall Thoughts on Megacon Birmingham 2026
Overall, I enjoyed going to Megacon Birmingham 2026 and it was worth the £24 I paid for standard entry. I was lucky not to be harassed by people attending different conventions and I had no issues inside of Megacon itself. However, I missed having more cosplay panels and the one panel I did attend was kinda awkward.
Due to personal preferences, I would probably buy early entry next time. It was very busy when I arrived and I like looking around earlier in the morning when there is less people, even if that means sometimes it’s a longer day, especially if I want to watch the cosplay competition and masquerade.
If there was anything that I missed that you wanted me to talk about, get in contact with me. You can check out Megacon’s website here, and my last review of Megacon here. I am not affiliated with Megacon or the NEC.
