Dracula’s Castle escape room is the first escape room I’ve ever done! I’ve done at home ones, and I love mystery games. My girlfriend and I have a Sherlock Holmes game where we solve cases that we love, and I got an Unlock! Star Wars game which was very fun, so I was naturally very excited to do an actual escape room. Here are my thoughts on it!
To start, the escape room that we did was Dracula’s Castle. It’s by Break Out Escape Experience and is located in Carnival Golf and Games, Merry Hill. We could put our bags and belongings into a box for safekeeping before we started, which was great.
This escape room was not very accessible, it has low lighting and you have to bend down for some puzzles and step over small raised areas to go to the next rooms, so it is not wheelchair accessible. My group didn’t have any issues with this, but it is important information, and you can contact them through their website to discuss accessibility.
Price
This escape room cost £95 for four of us, plus a £1.50 booking fee online. It worked out to £23.75 per person, not including the booking fee. From what I’ve seen online, this is an fairly standard price, but there are a few that are a little cheaper in the area, though not by much.
Difficulty of the Dracula’s Castle Escape Room
While there were no difficulty ratings on the website, the person working there did say that the Dracula’s Castle was their easiest escape room. Initially, we need need a hint to help with the first puzzle, but from there, we did quite well. We got stuck on one other puzzle, for which the hints didn’t help. We understood what we needed to do, but didn’t know how to do it and the hint just kept telling us what to do in different ways over and over. Once we figured that out, mostly from me realising that escape rooms rely heavily on magnets and just putting things wherever in hopes that I found magnets, the escape room was fun.
It was very gothic and spooky, which was great for the aesthetics and vibes. The dim lighting did make it very difficult to see. We were given one LED pillar candle and it wasn’t quite enough light to see some parts of the puzzles, which did make parts of it frustrating.
Experience
The staff member who showed up into the room and explained the rules was very nice and upbeat. However, the staff member who announced that we were done, due to it being a little anticlimactic, seemed eager to get out out of there. I did find that strange, since we had 27 minutes left out of the hour time slot. We didn’t get a picture or a sign to hold up to say the time we escaped it, which was a little disappointing.
Overall Thoughts on Dracula’s Castle Escape Room
Overall, I enjoyed doing an escape room and I definitely want to do one again. I might look at other places that might be cheaper. Still, I do like the other themed escape rooms advertised, so I will probably go back at some point.
